Background and Experience at AIMS
Susan Connolly entered the Cardiovascular Technologist program with nearly 20 years of healthcare experience. She had worked and volunteered as an EMT for over 18 years. It was that experience that initially led to her interest in the heart. She often found herself asking the paramedics questions about the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac patients. However, it was when her husband had a heart attack in 2014 that she ultimately decided this was the career she wanted to pursue.
Susan benefited greatly from her educational experience at AIMS. She felt the classroom education and lab training at the school prepared her well for the clinical internship at the end of her program. The internship experience itself turned out to be the most rewarding experience for her. The training and mentoring she received was really what prepared her to go out into the world as an echocardiographer.
“They gave me plenty of hands-on experience as well as the opportunity to discuss findings with doctors to help me gain a better understanding of cardiac pathology.”
Success after Graduation
Shortly after completing her internship at Hunterdon Medical Center, Susan passed the RCS certification exam from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Now she is a registered cardiac sonographer and works full time at St. Luke’s University Health Network in Pennsylvania. In the future, she plans to learn invasive echocardiography and pediatric echocardiography.
